Normally, lepers only go to show themselves to the priests when they are healed of the plague, so they {the lepers} can be welcome back into the society. When Jesus asked them to go show themselves to the priests, their situation was not in any form better than it has always been. Yet, they obeyed the instruction by faith, and as they went, they were cleansed.
