Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.
- 1 Kings 17:9.
Notice God didn't send him (Elijah) to the wealthiest and well to do, NO!
If you read from 1Kings 17:9-24. You will discover the land was experiencing famine, there were no food and this woman(widow) was gathering all she can find to prepare the last meal for herself and her son to eat and then die...
She said it with her own words!
Here is a man of God, sent by God to this woman, saying to her; " ....Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son." 1 Kings 17:13.
What do you mean? Practically, What is left will not be enough for her and her son; and here is prophet saying "make for me first". I mean naturally if she did, nothing will be left, but she obeyed. Knowing he is a prophet sent by God.
We must understand, Elijah went to the widow's place because he was sent by God. If he had refused because she was poor, he would have been in trouble. If, she on the other hand, had refused to attend to the prophet Elijah, because of her limited resources, she would have been in trouble as well.
Elijah was sent by God to sustain her household, but she have to make available what she has, for multiplication. Each time we want increase, God will always ask us, what do you have? There must be something to work with: see also 2 Kings 4:2 and Matt.14:17-18.
By obeying God they had abundant supply all through the famine, that lasted over three years.
We must be spiritually sensitive to the instruction of the Holy Spirit in these last days.
I pray that your spiritual hears be opened in Jesus mighty name!
When God ask you to do something, whatever you have in you is enough to start with, don't delay.
Also, notice from the Bible passage, that the son of the widow eventually died, but thank God an agent of rescue was around to restore what the enemy was trying to steal.
