Ten out of the twelve, said they can't take the land, reason being that the occupants of the land were giants, too strong for them to overcome, and that they were as grasshoppers in their sight. By their report, they were able to convince majority of the Israelites of their inadequacy, inability etc., so the people murmured against God, Moses and Aaron, therefore sparking off lamentation throughout their camp. Although God forgave them for doubting Him, and He didn't smite them as He had intended, for their unbelief, and rebellious act; because Moses had interceded for them.
