Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.
- John 13:8.
Outside the spiritual benefits of the exercise, Jesus was also showing them by example, the importance of submitting to God's will as it may demand, no matter the circumstances, status and inconvenience.
Jesus is the "Word of God" that became flesh, by whom were all things created and for whom they were all created, Colossians 1:16. Yet, He stooped down to wash his disciples feet. This gives a preview to Peter's reaction; how can you be the one to wash my foot?! Thanks be to God, he was corrected.
This is way out of proportion, for this modern day generation. 'me wash your feet? Never!' there is more to it spiritually, than the physical exercise. However, we know the origin of this kind of attitude, pride, and the father of it, is the devil. He is the father of all that are under the influence of the spirit of pride.
Imagine; after Jesus left, the Holy Spirit came and have been here ever since, doing what? Helping out the redeemed. I mean the Holy Spirit, the third person in the Godhead.
Submitting doesn't make you weak, neither does it mean you are stupid, it is God's order.
This is obviously one of the mean reason Satan fell. Crowned with so much glory and beauty, he became proud, and did not think it proper, to submit to any other, rather all should submit to him. You can see such attitude among people today.
People slight, scorn and make mockery of anyone that seemed to be submissive, even when they're subordinate to the said individual. Romans 13:1 says,
"Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God." we can say, "power=authority"
Do you know why it is dangerous to ignore the divine order? They are bound to be resisted.
James 4:6 says,
"... God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble."
Also, Romans 13:2 says,
"Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation."
Examine yourself, and ask this question, what nature dominates me? Is it pride? or am I submissive to God's order?
Have a blessed week, in Jesus name!
Jesus is Lord!
